Trying to capture more of the sun’s energy seems like such a modern endeavor. But, the fact of the matter is, solar energy has been in use in various forms for thousands of years. Apart from the obvious fact that the sun provides the energy for plants to grow that feed us, there are more technological uses that go back millennia.
Steam power was harnessed by the ancient Greeks, and solar energy played a large role in some of their methods. Pre-industrial, they regarded the devices as amusing toys, primarily. But some applications were taken seriously. Archimedes designed and had built a large magnifying-type glass that was used to set enemy ships on fire. The Romans adopted some of this technology, as they did much of Greek science.
Through the centuries, heat storage containers, thermometers and many other devices were created that relied on energy from the sun. Over time, those devices became more sophisticated and more diverse. In 1839 another big leap occurred when Becquerel discovered the Photovoltaic effect even though it would take another 100 years for devices based on it to become practical.
When sunlight hits certain materials, it causes the electrons in the atoms to get knocked loose from their associated atoms. Electrons moving within material constitute an electrical current. When that current is connected to a circuit, the power generated by the electrical flow can light bulbs, heat water or power a computer.
But electricity isn’t the only form of solar power. In the 1920s some public heating systems used large storage tanks to trap solar energy. The heated water was then supplied to homes. Eventually, those systems couldn’t compete economically. Gradually, the cost of gas and electricity decreased to the point that it was below those systems’ operating costs.
Those systems fell into disuse and were eventually forgotten. But the technology existed as a mainstream method, not a crank alternative. It worked and was, for the time, a cost-effective solution. Now there are hundreds of viable applications of solar power, which in one way or another convert sunlight received at the surface to power devices, heat water and supply other energy needs.
Satellites have used solar panels and associated technology to supply needed power. The systems are expensive, but compared to the total they’re a very small fraction of the cost. Closer to home, the same kind of technology powers phones or lights along some highways. And it isn’t just esoteric applications that benefit from solar power either.
Solar heating systems are employed in thousands of homes. Though solar powered electrical systems are less common than utility power, they are in wide use in rural areas where people want or need to supplement their supply. Many cabins in the Pacific Northwest are too far from the utility company lines to get electricity that way.
The increasing popularity of utilizing more of the sun’s power has a lot to do with the fact that the cost of getting involved can be very reasonable. Low-cost solar powered lawn lights are dotting many homes today. Calculators powered by tiny solar panels are so cheap they’re often given away as promotional items by advertisers. Solar power can’t yet compete with large scale electricity generation by big utility companies. But costs are coming down and the applications are growing. It’s had a long past, but the future of solar power is looking bright.

Very often we tend to use our time only to consume more and more. Have you thought how rewarding getting creative yourself can be?
I want to show you three different ways to get creative! I will cover three different fields, so everyone can pick something that suits him or her. The three different fields are reading, knitting and making a photo calendar.
My first idea for getting creative is making a special bookmark: a funny bookworm bookmark. I found this on a german website on bookmarks called lesezeichenladen.de. You can find the instructions in the section Bücherwurm basteln. Have Fun!
The second idea, although I must admit that most probably this will appeal more to women, is to knit a nice looking cap for the colder season. A fine set of instructions can be found on wunderfaser.de, the section is called Mütze stricken. I personally own one of those (to be honest, it was a present, but it was made using these instructions…)
The third idea for you creative minds out there is to make a photo calender with your own pictures. It is done using all free software. The instructions and the software can be found on www.naturfotokalender.de (section: Kalender mit Fotos selbst erstellen.)
Hope you enjoy my tips for a creative time! Go and do something yourself, you will be proud of it!

One of the cool things we do here is recap a bunch of really cool and random stuff we find from all over the internet so with that in mind I bring to you the some of the cool things I’ve taken note of over the past week or so.
1. First up is a guy named Justin D. Justin is a curious guy–he decides that he wants to become a police sheriff…well how does one go about becoming a police sheriff? He wants to figure that out too, so he goes and writes a blog about becoming a police sheriff. I think Justin is just learning the ropes of blogging (on a blogger.com blog lol) so please go easy on him if you choose to criticize.
2. Next up is a little blogger network that I stumbled across when I was doing some research for my wife. We recently had a kid and she wanted to get rid of her stretch marks. So I did a little Google search and suddenly what happens? I find this little blogger blog that shows people all about stretch marks and as a result we’ve subscribed so that we can see when new info comes out.
3. Lastly is a little bit on hip hop. I recently started reading about how to make hip hop beats and stumbled across this site–buy rap beats you might find it interesting if you like rap!

Dyslexia in adults is a very big concernwhich millions of adults have to face. Whilst there are some notable symptoms of adult dyslexia, there are also some characteristics of dyslexic adults that are especially notable. These characteristics include intelligence despite poor reading levels, oral language abilities that are significantly greater than their written language skills and attention concerns.
The intelligence of a dyslexic adult can be great but that is hardly able to be shown in certain cases. For example, a dyslexic adult might have all of the ideas on hand and all of the correct answers involving something. The problem is, however, that the reading and writing abilities of that person is significantly lower than that of what is generally common among people of their age or same education level. In actual fact, a simple intelligence test can tell this, as dyslexic people might end up having the same intelligence level as that of a person who is not dyslexic.
Oral language skillscan easily be greater than that of written language skills in people with dyslexia. This includes the fact that a person would be able to succeed on a test that is orally given and responded to it, but when a writing test is given, that person would not be able to get the right answers out.
Because of the inability to be able to write one’s own answers out and be able to write as well as others, the adult’s self esteem could be significantly harmed. This includes the inability to feel that they can easily succeed in their field of work. With these feelings it will be especially difficult to be able to make it through life with any kind of ease.
The ways that one is able to learn from are also impacted as a result of adult dyslexia. Some of the most fundamental characteristics involves how the person is able to learn. Learning through readings will be clearly difficult. Meanwhile, learning through demonstrations and hands-on work will be better for adults with dyslexia.
The last of the concerns involving adult dyslexia involves one’s ability to keep attention. A dyslexic person can easily lose track of time or easily lose attention of something. Because of this adult attention deficit disorder is commonly linked with adult dyslexia.
These are all characteristics of dyslexic adults that are especially notable. Even with the symptoms of dyslexia it is essential to consider the characteristics as well. That’s because these behaviors that are established by one’s inability to handle written words and writing. These are signs that show clearly that a person is dyslexic and that the person will need to get some help in order to be more well rounded and successful.

Have you been struggling with your weight for a long time? Have you tried several fad diets, or maybe even taken diet pills, but none of them worked to get the excess weight off you? You most likely have tried starving yourself. In fact, you probably tried to starve yourself first before trying out all the other fad diets.
Do you lack the willpower to lose weight? Do you need weight loss motivation?
What you need to realize is that starving yourself is not going to (and won’t ever) help you lose weight. In fact, starvation can cause you to keep those excess pounds on and even add on a few! By the way, did you make exercise a part of your weight loss plan? No?
No wonder you can’t shed off those unwanted pounds! The keys to weight loss are nutrition and exercise. And you have to be consistent and persistent too.
For sustainable weight loss eat a healthy, well balanced diet. This means cutting back (or eliminating) on fatty foods, junk food, sugary drinks and similar foods. You also need to exercise to increase your body’s metabolism. The better your metabolism, the more efficient your body is burning the calories. When your body is efficiently burning calories, you will see the weight come off. There are breathing exercise designed to encourage weight loss.
Doing the above mentioned isn’t a one-off thing. You need to be consistent — in eating healthy foods and on exercising. Don’t act surprised if you don’t lose weight if you’re still eating the same unhealthy foods you’ve been eating. And you need to be persistent. Don’t expect to shed off the excess pounds overnight; it takes time. Your body needs to adjust itself to a healthy weight loss plan for a few weeks.
Let’s take an even closer look at each of the key aspects to successful weight loss:
1. Nutrition
Switch to non-fattening foods that will provide your body with sufficient amounts of nutrients it needs to function efficiently on a daily basis. Starving yourself doesn’t work for weight loss. Why? When your body recognizes that you are starving it, it will go into survival mode and store whatever food you give it. It may be counterintuitive, but eating can cause weight loss, not starving! Go for low-fat and no-fat foods. Consume fresh fruits and vegetables every day. If you love meat, go for lean meat, preferably salmon or chicken instead of red meat.
2. Exercise
Exercise not only helps your heart become stronger and make you healthy overall, it helps raise your metabolism. The higher your metabolism, the faster your body burns calories. You can achieve weight loss safely if the amount of calories your body is burning is more than the calories you are consuming. Health experts recommend exercising at least 30 minutes three times a week. Walking, cycling and swimming are exercises that can help promote weight loss.
3. Deep Breathing
A few times during the day, do a 15-minute deep breathing session. It is believed that deep breathing helps your body burn energy.
4. Consistency and Persistence
5. Weight Loss Motivation
Frankly, weight loss motivation should be at #1, but for most people it’s the least considered part of a successful weight loss plan.
In order for your weight loss plan to be effective, you need to be consistent and persistent. Keep eating healthy meals and exercising regularly. If you waver or skimp on any part of your weight loss plan, you’ll stop losing weight.
A Few More Tips
Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals. Don’t eat four hours before you go to bed as doing so can disrupt your sleep. Your body needs to rest at night and it can’t do that if it has to digest the foods you’ve eaten close to bed time.
No fad diet or diet pill can bring you the same results of a healthy weight loss plan that involves proper nutrition and exercise. This weight loss plan is safe too and guaranteed to give you results!

Is it time to replace your roof? Millions of roofs are replaced each year with ordinary asphalt shingles, but let us discuss the benefits of metal roofing. Metal roofs are superior to conventional roofing materials in 6 ways. We have found that metal roofing California is the way to help our air conditioner and save on electricity.
The first is that you will not have to replace your roof nearly as often! In fact, your new metal roof may be the last roof you ever have to buy because the life expectancy of a metal roof is 20-50 years. How old will you be in 50 years?
The second superior aspect is the weight, compared with a normal roof that weighs 750 pounds per 100 square feet, metal roofs range from 50-150 pounds per 100 square feet. Because of this, you can easily install a new roof over the last one without the costly and time consuming task of taking off the old roof.
Metal roofs are not combustible which is why metal roofs are given “Class A” status which is the most fire resistant. You can also expect to see less in the way of energy costs because the metal roof reflects much of the direct sunlight that normal roofs eat up and translate back into the house resulting in Cool Roofing.
If you live in California or somewhere that has many different types of houses, metal roofing can accommodate almost flat roof pitches without risk of leaking just contact a CA Roofing Contractor. Most other roofs can have significant leaking problems at more less than 15 percent pitch.
Finally, you will be able to enjoy your new roof much faster because of the speed and ease of roofing installation. You can have a new roof in about 2 days less than the time it takes for an asphalt roof. Add up the benefits to a conventional roof and it is clear that a metal roof is far superior in these six fundamental ways.

Because I receive so many inquires about who is Tissa Godavitarne that I decided to write a little post about him.
I first heard of Tissa through the Wealthy affiliate forum in the recommended products section. This is a paid private forum which I have been a member for about three years and have trusted the other members recommendations and advise. The member who was presenting Tissa’s Affiliatize program was only a month or two old in doing online business but had made a good start with Tissa’s program and was clearing over a $1000 in profit already.
I did some more digging on the product and found that one can enter the program with little money, just enough for hosting your web page. The landing page explains a lot about Tissa and why he is looking for affiliates to promote his business. But it seems too good to be real and I think this is the main reason why people are asking who is this Tissa Godavitarne?
Tissa is for real and has been here for some time! He genuinely wants to help upstarts to acquire a business and is not promising anything more then a modest income, no get rich quick and become a millionaire in a month type program. Yes there are a lot of people who are doing business with Tissa Godavitarne in his Affiliatize program because it does work and the market is wide open for more.
Is Tissa Godavitarne just another scam artist tricking people into a worthless plan that cost a lot of money and time? No! He is the real deal for those of us that are willing to work and have patience growing our business into a profitable experience. The only people that seem to call Tissa’s program a scam are those that know nothing about it or have done little in promoting the product. I am not saying that this program is for everybody, it isn’t but if you are willing to work and see it through then it will most likely be a good investment of your time and money.
When you look around the internet and find all these different marketing business that say they have the best program for you to join. It is refreshing to find someone like Tissa Godavitarne in his down to earth type approach being honest and straight forward with a good product to promote.

I have been over weight for to long! So it’s time to develop a weight loss plan. I don’t want to spend days studying all the fads out there, I just need a few good weight loss tips and advice to help me get started. Like choosing the proper diet. Even though here is no such thing as “the” proper diet for every individual. Nevertheless, all humans are similar enough that there are probably broad categories, and many specifics, that are correct for almost anyone. A good diet like the the old-fashioned “balanced diet” that has remained largely unchanged for 60 years or more.
My friend said, why dont’ you try one of those fad diets? So I wonder, are fad diets a bad idea? It seems almost as if there is a new fad diet every week. Many of these contain elements of truth, but on the whole they contain much more good marketing than good science.
There is the 3-day diet, which touts eating little more than fruits for three days, followed by vegetables or meat or grains the other days. There are lots of variations. I just don’t know.
I have read that “the South Beach Diet is a phased approach to weight loss and nutrition. In the three major phases dieters will eat selected foods and avoid others, in order to balance the glycemic index to lose weight and achieve optimal metabolism.” What the heck is the “glycemic index”?
With all the diet informatiom available, it looks like it’s going to take me a lot longer than expected to figure out the best plan for me. Oh well, I suppose I will doing a little more reseach on the subject.

Generally, as things get older they lose their value. This is because time has a tendency to take its toll on objects that are used on a daily basis. For example, once a new car is taken off of the showroom floor it loses its value because it is being used.
Another example would be modern day technology. This loss of value is due to the fact that the technological world is constantly being updated and what is popular and cutting edge today may turn out to be yesterday’s technology.
On the other hand there are some things in this world that increase in value with age. Examples of this could be wine, cheese, people, etc.
Another area where age due to craftsmanship may increase the value of an item is in the area of musical instruments. Specifically, the value created when an individual owns a vintage Gibson Guitar. Therefore, to determine the value of a vintage Gibson Guitar it is important to know three specific things about that guitar. Those three things are the type of Gibson vintage guitar, the year crafted and the model.
Type Of Vintage Guitar
There are many vintage Gibson Guitars on the market. The first thing to determine in order to estimate its value is to find out what type of Gibson Guitar it is.
Those types of vintage Gibson Guitars that are available include the electric solid body, flattop acoustic, acoustic archtop, electric archtop, electric thinline and electric lapsteel. The type of vintage Gibson Guitars in question can be researched by using the web or by taking the guitar into a reputable guitar dealer.
Once the type of vintage Gibson Guitar has been identified it is easy to determine what the model is. That is because Gibson Guitars applied serial numbers to their products. The serial number found on the guitar is an eight digit serial number which utilizes dates that reflect the date of manufacture, at what location the guitar was made and the run number.
Model
The other determining variable on estimating the value is to know what model of guitar the individual has. Generally, the type of vintage Gibson Guitar is based on six identifying factors. Those factors include the color of the uppermost part of the instrument, the color of the backside of the guitar, the size of the body, the design or symbols used on the neck of the guitar, the look of the logo and the binding or edging of the guitar.
